Happy New Year

We are excited for another awesome year at the OAPS. There will be a number of fundraising events and activities happening at and for the shelter this year so make sure to check the website each month so you don’t miss anything!

We started off 2018 by taking in another 3 dogs from Texas to help with the continued relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Ginger, Jetta and Quincy are all sweet dogs who are sure to find good homes soon.

If your New Years resolution was to get in shape you can always come down to the shelter to walk the dogs. Or spend some quiet time playing with the cats. We hope to see you at the shelter soon!

Holidays at the Shelter

See all our animals for adoption

Happy Holidays from every one at the shelter! It has been an exciting year and December is no exception.

Our Christmas tree at Rosario

The dogs coming to us as part of the Hurricane Harvey rescue are finding homes on island and on the mainland. Tanner joins another Texas rescue dog and is now a city dog in Seattle. Milo joins a small pack of little dogs here on Orcas and fits perfectly in with his new companions. The only Hurricane Harvey dog still waiting for a home is Freddie.  He’s adorable, high energy and loves people.  If only we could convince him to like other dogs! If you are looking for that one and only dog in your life, Freddie would be a perfect choice.

We are excited to say that recently the large and handsome Sampson was adopted to a wonderful home, where he will have lots of critters to hunt outside but a warm bed to share with his person at night. Also, the fluffy Dolly  will go to her new home.  She’s a senior, like many of our cats, so finding a special place for her makes our day. Our brother and sister duo of Andre and Chai can now be found wondering the lobby. Andre strolls past the mini cat rooms and the shy ‘girls’ come out to greet him.  I guess, in the cat world, he’s considered a hunk.

Our Christmas tree is up at Rosario! Take your family and friends to see all the beautiful trees and vote, vote, vote!

Hurricane Harvey Animals

We have a fund set up with the Orcas Island Community Foundation to help cover the costs of transportation and veterinary care for the dogs coming to Orcas from the Hurricane Harvey disaster.  The relief effort will be ongoing for weeks to come and Orcas APS will continue to help as long as we can and until the area is stabilized.  Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.  We’ll be posting photos of our first group of dogs soon.  Both dogs and cats will be taken in as our space permits.
