Positions Supervised: Assistant
Shelter Managers, Shelter staff and volunteers
Director is responsible for the overall management and leadership of shelter
operations, promoting the shelter’s mission and ensuring the humane care of the
animals at the shelter. The director reports to the Board and provides supervision
of employees, program administration, volunteer coordination, facility
management, fundraising support, financial management and community outreach
Major Duties and
the welfare of all shelter animals, including proper intake procedures, necessary
veterinary care, compliance with animal welfare regulations and appropriate
maintenance of buildings and grounds and ordering of all shelter supplies and
safe interaction between public and shelter animals.
train, mentor and schedule employees to ensure operational needs of the shelter
a team environment by working collaboratively and professionally with
co-workers, volunteers, board and the public to accomplish organizational goals
and coordinate regular training programs to ensure that staff and volunteers
have necessary skills and abilities to accomplish required tasks.
the performance of staff at the shelter, develop/update job descriptions,
conduct annual staff reviews/evaluations and manage any performance issues.
with Treasurer to develop and manage annual budget.
grant planning, application and reporting process.
with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper to manage accounting, payroll and cash
& Public Relations
with other shelters and rescue groups to facilitate adoptions.
the shelter’s public relations and social media activities, including the
website, Facebook, print media and the newsletter.
Development and Donor Relations
with Board to coordinate fundraising events, capital campaigns, grants and
the board in cultivating potential donors and maintaining contact with existing

position is full-time and exempt.
